HONG KONG (AP) — Hong Kong police arrested well-known activist Joshua Wong and another core member of a pro-democracy group Friday. Andy Chan, the leader of a pro-independence movement, was arrested at the airport Thursday night. Police said Wong and Agnes Chow are being investigated for their role in a June 21 unauthorized protest outside a police station. Wong is secretary-general of Demosisto and Chow is a prominent member. He was one of the student leaders of the Umbrella Movement, the major pro-democracy demonstrations in 2014. Unfortunately at the moment China is “A Democratic Dictatorship”. The adjective “Democratic” is modifying the style of government which is a Mao inspired dictatorship. A dicatorship is not democratic. A democracy cannot be a dictatorship. It’s like a friendly enemy. Regardless of the description that makes it appear that China is a democracy, it is not. Xi Jimping is the head of the communist party. He is the national leader of the party that tells the people what to do.
But it’s even worse than that as the protests in Hong Kong show. China is not like Poland during the Gdansk Riots. Poland had the West looking on and their religious leader Pope John Paul II who championed freedom for Poland. Hong Kong is a secular city. China is essentially religion free so religion in China cannot help the people of Hong Kong as it did in Poland.
The rioters in China have been arrested for being seen as leaders of a riot. This will not end well for them and we do not know how it will end up for many Chinese residents of Hong Kong who are best advised to get away ASAP if they want freedom.
