….and it takes the touch of a jeweler and a surgeon to dis-assemble and re-assemble the Center Console to remove and replace the touch screen and Cadillac refuses to re-call their lousy design…

A report from Cadillac Society says several models are experiencing a cracking, crazing or de-laminating of the Cadillac User Interface (CUE) screen, and the issue is such that a class-action suit has been filed against General Motors. The cost of a replacement screen is about $175. It takes about four hours for an amateur backyard mechanic with good mechanical ability to remove the entire center console display, remove the four covers, remove the CUE screen then re-assemble everything and replace the trim covers. An experienced mechanic could probably do it in about two hours but if anything breaks it could take weeks, even months to locate, buy and install the broken thing or things because some of the pieces are very, very delicate so this is definitely not a job for amateurs. I’m an experienced automatic transmission mechanic with a mechanical engineering degree and a lot of repair time and loads of tools and it took me five hours including a trip to Home Depot to get some superglue to repair a very small connector.
