The back story of the movie Woman of Gold shows the court battles to get a priceless Klimt oil painting stolen by the NAZI’s from her home in Vienna returned to her. The story with the most important massage is about the Nazi forces in Vienna; and the murders of the Jewish community and the looting and pillaging conducted by the Nazis against Jewish families. The message is: government can kill you.
The American way of government is to give lots of power to the people which is supposed to offer some protection against being murdered by the government. The German people probably thought the same way, that government would protect them. Instead the NAZI government took their property and murdered them.
Could that happen in America? It can and has happened in many, many places around the world and in recent times. Mao took control over the Chinese people. Stalin and Hitler did too amd millions were murdered by the governments that were in charge and it required many more to die to get rid of those oppressive people and government.
Don’t feel too smug by thinking it couldn’t happen here. It happened recently and very close to here.
As the movie “The Woman in Gold” shows it wasn’t supposed to happen in Austria but it did. Watch the movie with that idea in the back of your mind and judge the things that were going on that made up the almost incredible plot for the movie. Government murder of some people, the oppression of others and government theft. A rather sobering set of thoughts.
