Yes, of course the White House can ban any media outlet and any individual reporter from an official White House Press Briefing. The press has a First Amendment guaranteed right to publish whatever it wants but it has no right to go wherever it wants because it’s the press. The press cannot enter your house to talk to you. Even the police do not have the right to enter your house without a warrant and you can refuse to answer questions because you are guaranteed that right by the Fifth Amendment as well as by the Liberty clauses in the Constitution.

President Trump banned CNN from the White House press briefings because CNN purposely published “Fake News”. He even said CNN publishes “Really Fake News”. That’s within the normal power of the President.

Keep in mind that the government or the President cannot and has not baned CNN from publishing “Fake News”.

And the government doesn’t not have to invite reporters wherever reporters want to go. And the White House can ban any newspaper it want’s from a White House briefing. the bottom line is President Trump can do as he pleases when it comes to inviting or refusing to invite people or reporters from government property.

President Obama routinely excluded conservative media and banned individual conservative reporters. The New York Times reported in 2015, President Barack Obama met privately with liberal reporters and columnists frequently throughout his tenure in office — “more than a dozen” times. And although he occasionally invited conservative columnists, “Liberal-leaning columnists from newspapers tend to dominate at Mr. Obama’s secret sessions.”

On the other hand, the press can go wherever it wants except onto private property without an invitation on onto government property when they are banned.
The American mainstream media are against President Trump. They resent his election and his power. President Trump knows how to handle people who do not want him to succeed. He certainly won’t go out of his way to accommodate political enemies which is what the mainstream American media has announced they are.

Let CNN go cover something else. Let them go to Cuba for example and cover human rights in Cuba. Same for Bolivia where Bolivian President Evo Morales harshly criticized US President Barack Obama in an interview calling him a war criminal who should be tried in international court. The outspoken critic of US policy did not mince words in the interview, lashing out at capitalism, the UN Security Council and America’s “imperialist” foreign policy.
