There were several bright spots in yesterday’s rigged, crooked Primary Election. Not bright spots exactly, just not quite as dirty as the usual corrupt machine politics where bold lies are told over and over again. The usual cast of “Capone Characters” won as Supervisor George “Pothole” Komelasky won a 36 year reign. Pothole still has to defeat a Democrat in the fall but unless the Northampton Democrats step up their game, Pothole and Piehole will win again and again. The mob stops at nothing and wins again and again. Yes, that’s been said but it’s still true.

The Northampton Democrats ran a clean campaign against a dirty and corrupt set of opponents. Look. If there are decent Republicans they need to show their face not stay in the shadows. Sure, they could be fighting from the shadows waiting for their chance but the Republican Steamrollers keep winning.

Jay Russell ran against his party yet again. He was appointed to the Republican Committee where he promptly brought all of them into disgrace for his bizarre behaviors but 36 year Supervisor Pothole easily won re-election on the Republican side. If he’s the best they have they haven’t much at all. If he’s not the best, what’s he doing running? 36 years is far too long but hey, corruption doesn’t stop because corruption doesn’t follow the calender.

Some Republicans decided they had enough so they organized a nihilist campaign against an overbearing school board director who, like Piehole and Pothole, just can’t leave the desert table. They lost, Mr. Piggy won while they disgraced the party and diminished the party leaders with a dirty, pointless campaign. They weren’t fighting for something, just against Grupp who frankly deserved their scorn, instead of standing for the replacement, Leslie Rothberg.

Northampton Township’s corruption isn’t unique. Corruption is the name of the political game because so many corrupt people can’t keep away from the easy money. But there’s always the idea that justice will prevail although in Northampton it still hasn’t appeared. Meanwhile, try to vote against Pothole, Piehole and Piggy.
