The most vicious negative Republican campaign in Bucks County was against a Council Rock School Board Candidate, Republican Jerry Grupp. It wasn’t an attack for something, it was an attack therefore against everything of value. The anti-Grupp campaign failed. Grupp won the Republican vote so he will be on the ballot again in November.

Paraphrasing Ayn Rand who wrote in the Age of Envy, “What endows such people with the quality of abysmal evil is the fact that they have an awareness of values and are able to recognize them in people. If they were only amoral, it would be inconsequential. But they are unable to distinguish virtues from flaws. But it does distinguish the corruptness in them––and the essential characteristic of their corruption is the fact that their recognition of a value is transmitted to their emotional mechanism as hatred, not as love, and for that they desire and expect admiration.

What is the nature of a creature in which a value arouses hatred and the desire to destroy? In the most profound sense of the term, such a creature is a killer, not a physical, but a metaphysical one ––they are not an enemy of your values, but of all values, they are an enemy of anything that enables people to survive, -they are an enemy of life and everything living.

Evil as these hating creatures are, there is still something more evil: those to try to appease them.

It’s vital to stand against evil. In the case of the campaign against Jerry Grupp the existence of evil motives is one fact. The haters were not in favor of anything. They were only against Grupp. They had no alternative to Grupp.

They had an easy target. Jerry Grupp is a rather pathetic creature but the Dumpers are worse. They lowered the politics in Northampton to the level of street thugs. Northampton deserved better but didn’t get it.

Knowing the dumpers provides the basis to judge their actions. For the past eight years the Northampton Republicans have tolerated and even encouraged the thugish Dumpers.

They violated the campaign finance laws by failing to put their names on the DUMP GRUPP signs as required by election law. They violated the public as well by bringing dirty tactics into Northampton Politics. In the end they, not Grupp, lost.
