What do you get with James Baldwin? A whole lot of not too much… He’s a great writer…. A really, really great writer but he’s a black man in America who’s so confused about race that he’s at best a work in progress and at worst someone who not to pay too much attention to. He gets a lot of things wrong. He is unable to identify a truly human nature. While that’s a shortcoming, he’s certainly not alone… In addition he’s a little guy with all the intellectual baggage that brings to a man who’s simply furious about his life. That makes him full of hate which makes him unable to be objective and to lose all objectivity about race. He knows black people are from Africa but he’s far, far from Africa. He’s so far from Africa yet he’s not really an American. He’s just about clueless about white people. Same for Jews who are just about universally hated by black people. Baldwin is, .. was…..
