On August 24, 2020, NSSF contrasted the number of National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) checks from January 1, 2020, through July, 2020, with the number of checks from January 1, 2019, through July 2019. After adjusting for checks that were tied to concealed carry permits or other ends, other than sales, they ascertained that the number of checks for sales was 12.1 million in the first seven months of 2020. That’s about 21 million for the entire year of 2020. Add that to the 400 million guns already in private hands means 421 million guns in private hands in America.  That’s 421 million divided by 328 million people means each person in America has 1.25 guns. It means among every four people there are five guns. PEW Research did a study HERE that gave a load of info but no valid conclusions about the morality of people owning guns.
