Sean “Diddy” Combs said: “in the great words of Erykah Badu, “We are artists and we are sensitive about our sh–.” For most of us, this is all we’ve got. This is our only hope.”
Notice he couldn’t talk without using excrement.
“Truth be told, hip-hop has never been respected by the Grammys. Black music has never been respected by the Grammys.”
Diddy did not or could not explain what is needed for music to be respected. Music must appeal to people. Musicians need to compose and play music people want to listen to. Lacking that appeal, music will not be accepted. Music that is not accepted cannot appeal to people. It cannot be respected because it’s not accepted because it has no appeal. Music needs to be heard to be judged good or bad. Bad music is not acceptable. Bad music is not listenable. It’s not respectable.
So to all the musicians who want their music to be respected look to the people who use the music and lose the attitude that just because you did it it should be respected. And if you want respect be respectful.
