Did the News get it all wrong? Why, if the cops were getting doused with water didn’t they respond with a “999” Officer in Danger code? Turns out that they were being helped to stay cool. Cops have to walk around in the heat with black shirts which make them hotter in the bright sun. <akes them at least 10 degrees hotter.
OZY Fest and the New York Triathlon were canceled and cooling centers were opened as New Yorker’s put up with local temp’s as high as 110 degrees on the street. The National Weather Service had put New York City under an excessive heat warning from noon Friday until 8 p.m. Sunday. That kind of warning is issued when the combination of heat and humidity is expected to make it feel like it is 105 degrees or more. The locals were helping the cops stay cool but not in the normal way.
