Many polls and much public opinion shows that criminals are usually Democrats so restoring their Right to Vote will water-down the Republican vote and make Republicans less effective. And if they have the right to buy a gun restored to them nothing will be able to stop the ex-criminals from buying a gun. Does America need more people with guns? What about the freedom to defend yourself when the attacker has a gun? How can you outrun a bullet?
When did government get the power to prohibit some people from owning a gun? The Second Amendment is really clear in prohibiting government from making any law that restricts a citizens Right to Defend themselves and to use a gun to do it. A lot of research shows the government never had the power to restrict a felon or an ex-felon from voting or getting a gun. The culture needs to learn how to defend itself without government breathing down everyone’s neck and stopping people from defending themselves. The police are a big help with stopping wise-guys from attacking people but the Supreme court ruled it’s not exactly their job to protect each and every person each and every time they get threatened or attacked. BTW. Maine and Vermont do not remove a felon’s right to vote even when they are in prison. Maybe Maine and Vermont want ex-felons who want to vote and buy a gun to more to Maine of Vermont. So much for government being consistent.
So if the police aren’t exactly responsible to defend you, what can you do? Same for a felon who has served their time and fulfilled everything when they were on probation. Who is going to defend them when they are threatened? Consider also that ex-felons often live in the dangerous parts of town so they need protection more than other people who live where it’s safer. How can they even take a chance to vote when it’s dangerous to leave the safety of the house? It seems that’s it’s just spite to keep insisting felons are less than full citizens just because they broke a few laws and went to prison. When they pay for their crimes why isn’t that the end of their punishment? Why should they be stopped from voting? Why can’t they be considered full citizens after they pay their debt to society? Or is it simply impossible to consider that sinners can change?
A personal friend of mine was convicted of a felony, went to jail but couldn’t vote or buy a gun to defend himself. He tried everything but couldn’t get the government to return his right to vote. He even wrote to several presidents but they never answered him. Why not? If the case is so solid that felons can’t vote or get a gun why isn’t it available to read? Is this some kind of trick? If so, who does it benefit? Maybe they’re the ones who should be punished for blocking the rights of people who paid their debt to society but society want’s more. This is all crazy stuff, isn’t it?
