Wood burns furiously at times unless it’s subject to fire suppression techniques. Notre Dame, a magnificent homage to so many things had a wooden roof. The stone structure not only didn’t burn, it’s still standing after a huge fire destroyed the wood roof, just as science would predict.
Chemically, CH4 + 2O2 plus heat = CO2 + 2H2O plus more heat which turns the H2O into steam.
Maybe, hopefully, the roof and spire can be rebuilt with bricks and metal to help prevent another devastating fire. Just be sure of one thing. God, angels and/or prayers don’t stop fires. If they did Notre Dame wouldn’t have burned. .
