“These Eyes”
“When the Iran deal was signed the first thing that crossed my mind was a nuclear power race in the middle east. Not a nuclear arms race, but a nuclear technology race. The arms race comes later, because the Saudis have some catching up to do and logic dictates that the first player in that race would be Saudi Arabia. The House of Saud has put its nuclear plans on overdrive, building its first plant on the outskirts of Riyadh with plans to build more. 
The thing about the first reactor isn’t the reactor itself, which is small and poses no real threat to any of its neighbors. The problem is that the Saudis are going use this plant as a teaching facility, so its scientists can learn all they can about nuclear power. So, the second that Iran spins those first 
centrifuges, in violation of the P5+1 nuclear accords, the Saudis will be in an excellent position to violate IAEA accords and a nuclear arms race will ensue. 
The Saudis are putting out contracts for its new commercial reactors and in spite of the fact that CIA director Mike Pompeo says that “We will not permit that to happen anywhere in the world,” Pompeo told CBS. “The President understands the threat of proliferation. We will never write a $150 million check to the Saudis and hand them over the capacity to threaten Israel and the United States with nuclear weapons, never.” In spite of all that rhetoric, the US wants to be involved. The thinking is this, is it better if we build these plants or is it better if the Russians or the Chinese build them?If we build them we know that protocols will be met. We will have eyes on the ground and intimate knowledge of every bolt and every rivet. We will have the blueprints and if the Saudis try build a bomb we will know were to hit. But politically its impossible. The mere thought of the US building nuclear plants for Saudi Arabia is frightening. Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman said last year that “without a doubt if Iran developed a nuclear bomb, we will follow suit as soon as possible.” I cannot imagine waking up to a nuclear armed Iran and Saudi Arabia because if they ever solve their differences Israel is in real trouble. This is going to happen and with the Iran deal we set the wheels in motion. We need eyes on the ground.
These Eyes will not watch you bring our world to an end.”
