The little Rainbow D4C was brand new 33 years ago. It’s been patched up but the R2-D2 looking little canister vacuum cleaner is in good enough shape. It works great. Gets up more dirt than the uprights we haBetter than we thought it would.
High suction, small size canister and the dirt goes into the water bath base and makes things really clean. The water-bath is what got me. Never saw one before. Never looked at vacuum cleaners other than to replace one when it broke. Water bath made so much sense. Added some pine scent, official Rainbow oil or whatever. No difference,  so more goes in next time.

This is the fifth  vacuum in the house right now. The seller’s ad on Ebay didn’t mention the broken belt in the powerhead or how it was beat-up inside from some past damage or it’s 33 year age or the frozen solid nuts on the separator but it works great and that’s the important part. Bought a belt $4, repaired the rather shabby powerhead. Tested it and it picked up so much dirt we were embarrassed but we just didn’t know about the massive differences in vacuum cleaners. We thought the little cordless vacuum did a fine job but after seeing all of the dirt that none of the other vacuums in the house were able to get was a revelation.

The hose from the canister has wires inside to electrify the powerhead motor. The water-bath, the powerful 1 1/2 horse motor and the powered powerhead makes this a much better, maybe the best ever vacuum.

There’s dust aplenty around here. Yes, we use the vacuums frequently enough but until R2D2 arrived we didn’t know how much dirt was still lurking about.

The newer Rainbow models have an additional HEPA paper filter to filter the outgoing air. Seems a good idea but the older models without the additional filter work better than other vacuums. Still, the second filter is a nice idea.  Without a doubt, we’re going to upgrade to one of them.
