Shelby Steele: Failed NFL Anthem Protests Show Black Protesting Has Lost Its Power

Social commentator Shelby Steele recently wrote an editorial for the Wall Street Journal wondering if the protests by black NFL players during the playing of the national anthem, signals the end of any weight being placed on public protests by blacks in America today.

With so many whites turned off by the NFL protests, Steele wonders if white Americans have finally “found the courage” to “judge African-Americans fairly by universal standards.”

Most people would say it’s about time the almost farcical government and entertainers fawning over black Americans who have not been oppressed for decades, perhaps generations is at an end. Race-based hate will never end. In Southern Africa it’s blacks who are in power and their hatred of white people is obvious. Race-hate is universal. It’s based on hate for ‘the other’ and ‘the other’ will always be with us and among us. The key to a better future is to control that.
