The “Known Knowns”.

The rather long list of belligerents fighting in Syria is shown on Wiki. On the side of Syria are: Russia/Putin, Iran, and Hezbollah. Opposing Syria is the Combined Joint task Force – Operation Inherent Resolve which includes America, Great Britain, France, Belgium, Netherlands, Australia, Jordan and Germany as well as many “Rebel” groups. Whether they are opposing only Assad or opposing Russia too seems generally unknowable.

A gas attack caused increased interest in Syria where Bashir Assad has a checkered history that includes torture and assassination as well as keeping the food supply operating.

The Unknowns: Who or what caused the gas attack? . . . . No answer except from one Congressman or Senator who says it was delivered by air and there are only two actors operating aircraft: Assad and Russia. His solution is to remove Assad from power. The next problem is: who takes over in Syria?

Perhaps Russia will support someone from Iran or from Hezbollah. No names are available.

It’s also time to push virtue-signaling and politically correct  non-answers off the table and face the facts that Syria is a mess. President trump knows that. He said he has a plan but he’s not going to talk about it. That idea makes sense. No point in telling the enemy about the plan to replace get rid of him. But to repeat: who takes over?

The answer to that is: when America or some other actor removes Assad America can name someone to take over.

Is that why Sec. State Tillerson and Trump adviser Jared Kushner seem to be involved? Perhaps. Keep tuned. This is complex and will take awhile to get resolved. President Trump has the necessary skills and personality to figure out what is to be done.
