The local government just raised the cost of water, sanitation sewers and storm sewers by 39% over last year and they want more money next year.
It’s more unaccountable government.
Because no one is watching them and because they don’t care even if they are being watched, they raised the cost of water and sewer bills 39% over last year and changed the billing from quarterly to monthly. More inconvenience for the voters and taxpayers.
DOES NORTHAMPTON WANT TO SELL THE WATER AND SEWER AUTHORITY???
In Scranton Dunmore they sold the water and sewer system for $173 million last year. They have 33,000 captive properties and those people paid to have water and sewer system wells drilled plus pipes installed along with pumps and storage towers to store water and to keep pressure on the water lines and to move the sewage along to the processing plants.
The people, not the township paid for the wells, pipes and pumps but the Scranton- Dunmore government sold the wells, pipes and pumps and kept the money.
The money should have been returned to the people who paid for the pipes and pumps. It wasn’t. Government didn’t care who paid, they took the money.
The Northampton Township Supervisors may sell the water and sewer system because they let the costs get so far out of control that they don’t even know where the money is going. They have elaborate financial documents that prove very little except that Northampton want’s more money so they might sell the wells, pipes and pumps. See their 5 year “Strategic Plan” HERE.
Scranton-Dunmore sold their system for $173 million, a system that serves 33,000 properties. That’s $5,848 per property. That means Northampton Township with 13,025 properties would sell the system for about $78 million but Northampton will not give the money back to the people who paid for the system. It looks like, maybe, the 39% increase is to soften the people up to sell the system but the money will be kept by the local kleptomaniacs and not returned to the people who paid for the system. Disgusting.
Selling the Municipal Authority for $78 million, divided by 13,025 properties is $5,988 per property owner that should be given to the property owners by the township supervisors.
This is almost the same crew who decided the water was being contaminated by illegal cross-connections so they inspected the properties involved and found nothing. NOTHING! And now they want us to accept their advice to increase out payments to them by 39%. Tell them to get lost. .
