The attacks on 9/11 were inspired by a book that was inspired by God beginning about 1,400 years ago. Of course anyone can say they were inspired by anything or anyone; there’s no way to check on what goes on in peoples minds so there’s no way to know or verify who or what put the un-revealable in someone’s head. Just no way.

The idea that a religion is evil runs counter to the general narrative but consider this about the state of knowledge. It’s been wrong on many important issues like the shape of the earth which was flat until Christopher Columbus sailed “off the edge” and onto what became America.

No new religions have started recently. The big three, Judism, Christianity and Islam are 4,000, 2,000 and 1,400 years old.

What are religions about, anyhow? Here’s one definition: religion is: a set of mystical beliefs; about the supernatural origin, working and purpose of reality, i.e., of the universe; and what that means for human life. Religion is of course much bigger than the big three religions, including the ideas of the Egyptians, Aztecs, Mayans back to Tengriism which originated sometime in the Bronze Age (between 3600 B.C. and 1200 B.C.) by the people of the Altai Mountains in Central Asia. Religions have been around for 5,800 years or so but that begs the question: why haven’t there been any new religions. Why is the newest, Islam, 1,400 years old?

Judaism is about good and evil. Christianity is about love among all people and Islam is about submission to God. The three are sufficiently different that they are incompatible.

From the initial to the final analysis however all religion is about the next life, the life hereafter, not about this life which is viewed as a middle stage or a transitory stage, a period to be endured in exchange for something better, eternal life. It’s like the gambling bet on what the next roll of the dice will be except in the game of dice there are 12 numbers so there’s only twelve options. Life is far more complicated. With all that complication how is it even possible to calculate all of the options for death? Well it is because there is no option for death. It’s final. There’s no second choice so people are advised to live the life they have as well as they can. It doesn’t matter much if you decide to live with love or with hate or a bit of both, death always wins. ?
