It’s an anti-Terrorist, behind-the-scenes mystery novel that’s great. Tom Clancy could spin a good yarn and Rainbow is a counter-terrorist novel written three years BEFORE 9-11. The plot is sort-of complicated. Sort-of because Clancy writes in an uncomplicated, very easy to read and easy to follow way with sort of complicated sub-plots that proceed on multiple fronts so keeping them separate is what the reader must do while following along. Do that and Rainbow is a great read. It’s over 730 pages so it’s a good book to take on a long trip or on holiday where you can spend time following and learning Clancy’s story.
Clancy weaves a lot into his books so be pleasantly surprised to read about Army-Navy football as well as some helicopter flying insider info during the way. There are only a few big words here. The characters, plot and theme come through and everything’s tied up neatly in the end. A great novel by one of the best techno-military writers ever.
But Tom’s gone. Sadly he passed away at age 66. Hemingway passed away at age 61. Clancy had a great run.
