Rust-Oleum…. Available since 1921 when it was developed by a sea captain named Robert Fergusson, who noticed that fish oil spilled on rusty ship decks successfully stopped corrosion from spreading. Working alongside a chemist, he perfected a formulation that dried overnight without leaving an unpleasant fishy odor. He launched the company in New Orleans that same year, and it later transitioned into the global Rust-Oleum Paint Co. It’s a throughly American product so why didn’t the U.S. Navy use rust-proof paint when it painted the USS Abraham Lincoln?
