Probably not much. A limited amount of research shows there’s lots to know but not much has been publicized. The very idea is horrible but there is a whole lot of history that lies under the radar. Mostly it seems that often the wrong people are blamed for the slave trade in America.

It’s of little consequence that the history isn’t known. In large measure, what difference does it make? But the history is so heavily freighted with blame and hate that the problem of causes and the history of slavery is almost too sore of a topic to talk about. That’s unfortunate for all involved and that means everyone in America because the attitude of President Obama impacts everyone in America. Attorney General Eric Holder Wednesday called the American people “essentially a nation of cowards” in failing to openly discuss the issue of race. Yes but it wouldn’t be a long discussion because most people and that would include Holder don’t have a lot of information about it either. He’d talk about his personal experiences but those are anecdotal and worth almost nothing compared to the issue of race and especially about slavery.

Slavery’s history is important to know because some of the wrong people are blamed and the guilty get off the hook. Meanwhile the consequences of ignorance seem to ratchet up just about every day. The language itself has become part of the problem. As time passes it will become necessary to finally get the entire issue exposed. For now all we can do is watch and perhaps for some try to work with the cards as they appear. That’s not a recipe for justice but the issues are too raw to hope for justice. At the moment consider that the largest known holder of slaves was a Zanzibari slave trader Tippu Tip who owned 10,000 slaves. Did you know that during the 8th and 9th centuries of the Fatimid Caliphate, most of those enslaved were Saqaliba Europeans captured during wars and along European coastlines.[2][page needed] Historians estimate that between 650 and 1900, 10 to 18 million people were enslaved by Arab slave traders and taken from Europe, Asia and Africa across the Red Sea, Indian Ocean, and Sahara desert?
