Airplanes need to be lifted up into the air and pulled or pushed thru the air. the “lift” comes from a vacumn created by the wing passing thru the air. the thickness of a wing is a controlled shape that compresses the air then releases the compression and when the compression is released it creates a vacumn over the wing. The vacumn causes the air over the wing to lift the aircraft and along with the air under the wing they push the aircraft up. It’s a compicated process that wasn’t fully discovered
