A lot of people were walking around representing with black smudges of ashes in the center of their foreheads showing they are christian. Ash Wednesday is an important day for many Christians as it is the first day of Lent which means it’s now 40 days until Easter. It’s an old custom and one in which I participated for many years but things changed with and for me. I no longer get the ashes but realize the length and breath of the Christian belief. While it’s not for me, many people practice the rituals connected to various purposes and practices of the Roman Catholic church which is headquartered in The Vatican in Rome in Italy.
