How can that be? How is it possible to have a moral code or a moral nation without a basis in religion? Well it is. A moral code is simply a set of values that’s used to guide one’s choices. Like just about everything, a moral code must start with Metaphysics, a view of existence. The choice is limited to two alternatives: reality or the supernatural. If you chose reality the next step is to decide on a way to make your choices. If you start with the supernatural then anything goes. Your universe is a non-real place so there’s no useful rulebook. That’s why religion has failed to provide a moral world. The religious purpose of your life is to become an abject zombie who serves a purpose you cannot or does not know, for reasons you are not to question.
