What did Julian Assange do that was wrong? Several things come to mind and for starters he and Chelsea Manning illegally hacked into secret data about American Military conduct. Maning and Assange blew the whistle and the establishment came after them, got them and punished them. Manning discovered and disclosed what she considered to be the unnecessary detention, abuse, and torture of prisoners by the U.S. Military and that triggered trouble for her and Assange. It’s as if they discovered the angels in heaven were the devils and they should have been in hell but were still in heaven. What they alleged to have discovered has never been argued.
