A marriage is a contract that a man and a woman make with each other. Gay marriage is a contract between two gay people. A Same Sex Marriage is a contract between two people of the same sex. Neither need be of any particular sex, from any culture or any religion to get married but the marriage of a man and a woman is a different matter than a same sex marriage. Both represent contracts but they are different contracts. A contract between a man and a woman could be a gay man and a heterosexual woman or a lesbian or a bi-sexual woman and still be a valid contract. Marriage can be civil, and/or religious. All contracts freely entered into are valid. All are subject to change and revision. Note that romantic involvement is not a requirement for a contract although most marriages result from romance. That’s a good thing. Speaking of heterosexual marriage I can attest to not only it’s goodness but it’s greatness. So far as personal experience with any other type of marriage I have none. Someone else will have to address that issue. So far as LGBTQ individuals who wish to be married I hereby note that those marriages are referred to by the pronouns used. All combinations are possible within the bounds of contract law. As far as I can perceive those combinations require additional terms to identify them; e.g.: “Same Sex” as a preface or “B-T” which shows the idea of marriage between a heterosexual male and a heterosexual female being called marriage while all other combinations require additional terms. SO it seems that while marriage is safe, so are the rights of the LGBTQ community. As a matter of technical interest The Washington Post in 2014 published an article which claimed same-sex marriages make up less that one half of a percent of the total marriages. That’s about 1.2 million out of the 129 million who are married. It’s a small percent but a very large number.
