The BBC claims: “The US currently runs a trade deficit with China. In 2024, the US imported far more from China ($440bn) than Beijing imported from America ($145bn).” It neglects to inform the reader (the lie) that the US runs a product surplus with China where America received $440bn in products but only sent $145bn in products to China. Americans have $295bn more products that they shipped, a clear product surplus of $295bn. That’s a load of products that American’s have that they wouldn’t have if they didn’t buy them from China. So.. A trade deficit is not really a deficit because it’s offset by the product surplus. In other words American’s got gobs more product than they would have if they didn’t buy stuff from China. We got what we paid for.
