Testosterone is the primary sex hormone and anabolic steroid in males.[3] In humans, testosterone plays a key role in the development of male reproductive tissues such as testes and prostate, as well as promoting secondary sexual characteristics such as increased muscle and bone mass, and the growth of body hair, and psychological characteristics in males such as increased aggressionsex drive, the inclination to impress partners and other courting behaviors.[4] In addition, testosterone in both sexes is involved in health and well-being, where it has a significant effect on overall mood, cognition, social and sexual behaviour, metabolism and energy output, the cardiovascular system, and in the prevention of osteoporosis.[5][6] Insufficient levels of testosterone in men may lead to abnormalities including frailty, accumulation of adipose fat tissue within the body, anxiety and depression, sexual performance issues, and bone loss.

Estrogen or oestrogen (see spelling differences) is a category of sex hormone responsible for the development and regulation of the female reproductive system and secondary sex characteristics. Menopause happens to females, not males. …..

Estrogen is typically called the “female” hormone. Testosterone is called the “male” hormone. This isn’t entirely accurate as both are present in everyone’s bodies. But higher amounts of testosterone tend to be present in biologically male bodies. And higher amounts of estrogen tend to be present in biologically female bodies.

Estrogen is key to the development of sexual functions and characteristics in women during adolescence. This includes menstruation and the reproductive cycle. It helps maintain that function throughout life.

Some males have insufficient testosterone. They may present as men with weak sex drive. Same for females and insufficient estrogen. In fact males produce some estrogen and females produce some testosterone. There is a threshold, unknown and unstudied where males no longer present as male and females don’t present as feminine. The literature is confused as to the ratios of testosterone to estrogen that are considered in a normal range. Consequently there is no definition of a sufficient amount of either testosterone or estrogen. We can all agree that there are typical men and typical women but the reality is about the combinations and the minimums.

No one knows. Since no one knows be careful about being absolutely certain about sexuality, gender and mixing the sexes or the genders.

Generally, healthcare providers consider normal testosterone levels in men to be between 300 and 1,000 nanograms per deciliter (ng/dL). These ranges may vary slightly depending on the criteria used by your provider or laboratory.

One gram has one trillion nanograms so 300 to one thousand nanograms of testosterone is an extremely small amount.

Your testosterone levels may be higher or lower based on your age, sex, medications you take, and other health conditions you have.

Testosterone production tends to slow as a person ages.

Testosterone in Women

Though women produce less testosterone than men, the hormone still plays a vital role in how a woman’s body functions.

In women, testosterone helps with:

  • Bone strength

  • Ovarian function

  • Sex drive

A normal level of testosterone in women is considered to be between 15-70 ng/dL.

Normal testosterone levels are usually described as:

  • 300–1,000 ng/dL for men

  • 15–70 ng/dL for women

Men typically produce the most testosterone during their teenage years.

Then there is the effect of the brain… Mental ability including cognition and processing speed has a sexual cause and effect component that is not well understood. There is also the function of the 44 human glands including the hypothalamus. If you can simultaneously hold onto all of this you are a rare individual. Consider that all of this and more is involved with the Bud Lite/ Dylan Mulvaney controversy. It’s neither straightforeward nor simple so be aware of what’s going on if or as you engage in the controversy.
