Moscow is much larger than New York City. If Russia decides to bomb America and America strikes back Moscow would be obliterated before the Russian Missiles reach all of their targets because Moscow is half again as big as New York City. Moscow is a far less defensible target. Russia would have to hit both New York and Los Angeles to equal the population of Moscow. In addition Russia is vulnerable from Europe which is only seconds of the flight time of a NATO launched missile. Plus NATO can launch from a dozen places. Russia would not be able to destroy all of the incoming missiles. While Russia is a powerful country they know Europe has the capacity to retaliate which would destroy a lot of Russian military equipment in a first counter-strike. But let’s not worry about Russia because while Putin is belligerent, he’s smart enough to know how the response would go and that he’s far more vulnerable than America or Europe.
