After enduring far too many football games with trite commentary from so-called expert announcers especially the much hated Al Michaels whose voice grated in my ears for far too long, I figured out that, as an ex-player I knew as much as and frequently more than the announcers so I “muted” the sound. Football became instantly more enjoyable and watchable. If there was a complicated play or something most fans missed the play was re-played and replayed to exhaustion. The constant re-playing is annoying but far less annoying than hearing the same play re-described over and over again by the annoying announcers. I still cannot stomach Michaels but with his voice muted the game is more enjoyable. I used to enjoy listening to John Madden because John knew from actual experience what was happening and could easily explain the complicated stuff. Same goes for Tony Romo, Terry Bradshaw, Joe Nameth and other player/announcers.
