Don’t try it without a qualified instructor or at least a qualified pilot because flying is difficult. It’s far more difficult that driving a car. Almost anyone can drive a car. Almost no one can fly an aircraft without a significant amount of instruction, it’s that hard. Its far more difficult than driving a car.
Why is that? An aircraft can go forward if it has enough power to taxi over the ground. It can turn on the ground but not by turning the control wheel. An aircraft turns on the ground by using a left and a right foot pedal to turn the front wheel if the aircraft has a front wheel. Many don’t. The have a steerable tailwheel.
But in the air the aircraft is not turned by the steerable wheel. In the air the aircraft needs to lean to the left to turn left and it must also be steered by the rudder to the left and it has to increase the lift lost by the tilted wing by raising the nose of the aircraft or increasing the power. That’s a lot harder than moving a steering wheel in a car. In addition the aircraft is carried along by the wind. Wind has very little effect on a car but the wind can make landing an aircraft very difficult. It the wind is not blowing right down the runway landing the aircraft is a whole lot harder because the aircraft will be carried by the wind and as the aircraft slows down to land the effect of the force of the wind will increase as the aircraft gets closer to the ground. Most beginning pilots are incapable of landing when the wind is coming from the side of the aircraft because they don’t have the skill necessary to control the aircraft and make it go straight down the runway. The largest aircraft in the world still have to maneuver and land on a runway where the effect of the wind can be handled by the flying skill of the pilot. Then try to do it at night when the normal visual clues that help position the aircraft are not available because of the darkness.
