Gregory Lee “Joey” Johnson is an unemployed 62 year old burner of American flags, …. in America where it’s safe. What about the places where there is documented murder of protestors? If Joey is so concerned about the evils in the world, why is he even here instead of the places where the evil is real? Why? Because it’s dangerous and Joey want’s to be safe.

As is typical for protestors they get more and more outrageous as time goes on. Joey, a confirmed pyromaniac burned his first flag 35 years ago. Since then he’s taken to putting slogans on t-shirts, has a scruffy beard which hurts his cause because people judge others partly by their appearance and shaves his head instead of his face.

Johnson belongs to the rather whacky Revolutionary Communist Party whose slogan is: “imagine a world without America.” He made burning flags an integral part of his protests. It was Johnson’s burning of an American flag during a march against nuclear war in Dallas in 1984 that led to a landmark 1989 Supreme Court decision overturning his conviction for “desecration of a venerated object” and making flag burning a constitutionally protected right.

Joey said: “It was a righteous thing to do in the face of a fascist regime,” so he can use the insanity defense.
