The Founders of America went to war against the government because of their long experiences of government abuse. Did it happen all over again in Bucks County as Bucks County District Court Judge John Waltman along with Police Chief Bob Hoopes and Constable Barney Rafferty, accepted $400,000 from government FBI agents in a sting operation to trap the three officials into laundering the $400K and keep $80,000 for their trouble.
Judge Waltman was sentenced to 6 1/2 years. Was it a show trial for the benefit of the public? There’s no way to know whether it was or not.
Good chance Waltman is out in two years. His lawyers will concoct some nonsensical story about his health or whatever works to get his sentence changed to time served. ANother issue: why were their photo’s on the front pages while photo’s of most criminals are never shown on the nightly news or in the newspapers?
Entrapment is a practice where law enforcement induces a person to commit a criminal offense that the person would have otherwise been unlikely or unwilling to commit. It “is the conception and planning of an offense by an officer or agent, and the procurement of its commission by one who would not have perpetrated it except for the trickery, persuasion or fraud of the officer or state agent.”
Police conduct rising to the level of entrapment is more common than is reported and is broadly discouraged and thus, in many jurisdictions, entrapment is available as a defense against criminal liability. Sting operations, through which police officers or agents engage in deception to try to catch persons who are committing crimes, raise concerns about possible entrapment. In this case the possibility looms over the entire operation.
In addition when a judge is caught committing crimes it raises the possibility that other judges are doing the same things. It’s a reasonable presumption and in this case it’s also fair to ask: “was there entrapment. Was it reported how/what was the first act that led to the crimes? Was it a law enforcement officer who approached one of the defendants or was it one of the defendants who mentioned the possibility of laundering money to an undercover FBI officer? We are supposed to trust the criminal justice system but remember that America was founded by a group of rebels who took on the most successful country back in the day.
