Our railroad tracks are the same as the Japanese Bullet Trains that go up to 374.7 mph. One of the problems in America is the trains cannot go around the turns because the spikes would come out because the turns are too small but the trains can tilt and go around the turns faster so the problem comes down to the spikes. Two solutions present themselves. Widen the turns or slow down the trains. It’s a big problem to redo the spikes. The centrifugal forces are just too high. Even if the spike problem can be fixed the trains would have to tilt wildly and probably slow down too. That adds time to the trip which is why it is done in the first place.
Boston to DC would take an hour and ten minutes so it makes a lot of sense to start there. The Acela Express at 150 mph max speed is really just too slow for the job. It should be able to go twice as fast. It’s popular even at 150 mph so it would be even more popular at 300 or 350 mph.
Flying is better for the long distances. The solution for the shorter distances comes in several phases. Get the trains running on the lines where there are fewer problems. Redo some of the tracks. Add additional tracks long term.
High speed rail routes can use the Interstate highways which will eliminate the land acquisition problems. Let’s get this going. Trump is a developer. Use his brains to figure this out. Biden wants it but he’s too stupid to be much help. Get Trump on it!!
