Yes.

America admitted 1.18 million legal immigrants in 2016. America has the largest immigrant population in the world with 47 million immigrants as of 2015. That’s more foreign born people than all of the people in California and they have changed America but not always for the better. Foreign born chefs open restaurants and 43 percent of companies in the 2017 Fortune 500 were founded or co-founded by an immigrant or the child of an immigrant, and among the Top 35, that share is 57 percent. That’s good. It’s very good. Good for the immigrants and very good for Americans as we have more jobs, more money and more ways to spend it.

Immigrant-founded American companies settle and work and earn a living in lots of places in America. Sixty-eight metropolitan areas and five non-metropolitan areas spread across 33 states are headquarters to Fortune 500 firms founded by an immigrant or the child of an immigrant. It’s not just great restaurants and great food that immigrants bring. they bring in brains and hands that want to succeed.

A recent Harvard Business School study found that among foreign-born entrepreneurs, those who come here as children have among the best business outcomes (growth and survival rates). that’s good for them and good for everyone but it’s not the end of the story.

There are immigration failures too. .
