When the black chiefs in Western Africa sold black captives to non-black Arab traders who re-sold them to farmers who needed people to pick crops it was the blacks who started the whole thing. If they had not sold their captives to make a few bucks for themselves with no care at how the people they sold were treated, they ontinued one of the worst evils on earth….
Oprah railed at white people when she said: “I’m here today because of the men and because of the women who were lynched, who were humiliated, who were discriminated against, who were suppressed, who were repressed and oppressed,” Winfrey told attendees at the Cobb Civic Center Jennie T. Anderson Theatre. “I refuse to let their sacrifices be in vain.”
But the Egyptians had slaves. Slavery appears in the Mesopotamian Code of Hammurabi (c. 1860 BC), which refers to it as an established institution. that’s almost 4,000 years ago so it’s more than a little ingenuous of Oprah to talk as if slavery was started in America. It certainly was ended here by Republican President Abraham Lincoln but to listen to Oprah rage against America the Trump supporters still want slavery to continue. Oprah should know better than to prevaricate so.
The Anti-Slavery Society estimated that there were 2,000,000 black slaves in the early 1930s in black Ethiopia, out of an estimated population of between 8 and 16 million mostly black people. Slavery continued in black Ethiopia until the brief Second Italo-Abyssinian War in October 1935, when it was abolished by order of the white Italian occupying forces.[29] In response to pressure by white Western Allies of World War II black Ethiopia officially abolished slavery and serfdom after regaining its independence in 1942. On 26 August 1942 Haile Selassie issued a proclamation outlawing slavery. read that agains to be sure you understand that it was in 1942 in Africa where a black head of state finally ended slavery in black Africa. Oprah needs to styudy the history of the black slaves more so she could put what happened in America into a proper context and so she could finally be proud of America. .
