Intelligence cannot be identified. Testing for intelligence cannot measure intelligence or even intellectual ability. It can effectively and accurately provide a score for an intelligence test but keep in mind that it’s not measuring intelligence.
Intelligence is generally referred to as a human ability. It refers to “g” and the various tests do measure something but it’s a combination of many things, not intelligence as such.
When similar people are tested they do cluster their intelligence around a certain number. The tests do not measure for example reading speed which has a high correlation with IQ. The tests don’t consider color blindness for example or even the resolving power of the retina. Whether or not the subject had a headache or an allergy that degraded or blurred slightly the vision affects the test results.
IQ tests are reliable within certain parameters. No one accepts the results as absolute or claim that a person who scores a 92 is smarter than a person who scored 91. IQ tests are extremely useful for certain purposes but the actual number of the supposed IQ needs to be treated with some cynicism. .
