It’s a sort of whitewash of the responsibility for the basis of the film which is the Holocaust. A gauzy story allegedly about the differences in the memories of three brothers who were forced to live in a cave to survive the Holocaust which pushes the terrors of the Holocaust into a fun search for the cave. In that sense it’s inhuman because not only did the Holocaust happen which is constantly overlooked except to portray it as some kind of kids game in the woods when it was a deadly attack by an entire culture gone nuts.

This is how and why the current worldwide pre-occupation with the religious war being waged in the name of an entire religion just as the European part of World War II is pushed into the background by some wrongheaded people who accept terrorism as long as it doesn’t get too close. Misguided fools fool themselves. Shalom Italia paints a vivid picture of how human denial blocks out truth and forgives even the Nazi and Italian cultures that caused the horrors of WWII in Italy.

Then there’s Japan and WWII in the far east, another whitewash of history and the reversal of the guilt of Japan onto America for ending it with nuclear weapons. One wasn’t enough to stop the perpetrators. No wonder History is so disrespected. The truth shouldn’t be covered up. The cause of Shalom Italia should be front and center because it’s so inhumane.

The quesion is: “why did the family have to live in a cave?”
