Galileo was arrested, prosecuted and punished by The Catholic Church and their error is still not admitted. Galileo was correct in 1616 when he wrote that the earth moved around the sun but Cardinal Ratzinger who became Pope Benedict the 16th wrote in 1990 that the church was correct to punish Galileo. As Pope he was invited to speak at the largest university in Italy but a group exposed his opposition to Galileo and demanded he stay away. He did. Score one for reason.
What about the truth? Why was and why is the church opposed to it? Because a known universe upsets the basis for their schemes.
The credibility of any institution depends on the accuracy of it’s individual decisions. Neither a Pope nor the church is immune from the truth. The truth is the church was as wrong in 1633 when they denied the truth of Galileo’s science as Cardinal Ratzinger was in 1990 and as he remained wrong in 2008. That’s 401 years That’s not the record for the longest lie ever told which goes back so far into time that the starting date for the errors attributed to mistaken misbelief’s about the universe remains unknown. It’s what gave rise to medicine men, witch doctors, wizards and other heavenly prognosticators who gained power from the myths. Those dangers are still with us only today they are called Liberals.
Liberals would side with the mystical as they have been doing in their opposition to President Trump.
