At the Northampton township Board of Supervisors meeting 3/22/2017 a supervisor told the public that “the Water and Sewer Authority is not under the control of Northampton Township”. But, he said “the township appoints the directors”. Well, … that gives them the ability to get the manager to do the right things. So they have defacto control and they are responsible for going along with the 39% tax hike. One supervisor didn’t like calling the tax that goes to pay for water and sewer being called a tax but the supervisors go to a lot of trouble to fool the people into thinking it is.

The Municipal Authority is on the same road called “Township Road” which is where the Northampton Township Administration building and the Police Department are  so why has the township been keeping quiet about the Authority not being part of government?

Turns out the water and sewer business is a trick. It’s listed on the township website. The Municipal Authority is an independent corporate agent of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, exercising governmental, as well as private corporate power. So it’s part of the government after all and it turns out it’s not quite a private company. Further, the township supervisors try to avoid getting involved even though the 39% tax increase was presented at a Northampton Township Supervisors meeting. These are tricky people indeed. .
