After all, Pope Leo is an American. He was born in Chicago and even though Chicago is a Democrat stronghold it’s no reason to go after President Trump. In fact Pope Leo XIV has engaged in a public dispute with U.S. President Donald Trump, criticizing the administration’s war actions in Iran and immigration policies. The Pope has urged peace and dialogue, calling the war an “unjust”, while Trump labeled the Pope “weak on crime” and “terrible for foreign policy”. Pope Leo the fourteenth was born Robert Francis Prevost. Known as “Rob” to his family and “Bob” to friends as an adult, Prevost was raised in Dolton, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago. He’s a true blue first generation American. His father was from Italy and his mother was from France. The problem with his battle against President Trump will continue to alianate the Catholic Church and individuals Catholics from America’s Republican voters. In that sense the Pope cannot win. Neither can President Trump because Democrats and Catholics will support the Pope almost to a fault rather than admit he in not correct. In addition,, the Pope, being a priest is celibite meaning he does not have relations with females while Trump has the advantage of having Melania at his side. These two men are on either side of a divide. It would be best if they can reconcile and President Trump sent Catholic Marco Rubio to Rome for discussions with The Pope but the discussions did not go well verifying the intractable gulf between these two powerful men. The Pope and President Trump are different in their uptake and reasoning positions so the gulf cannot be bridged. It is almost identicle with the gulf between President Trump and ex-President Obama who are also on either side of a giant political chasm.
Time will soften the debates but they will not be solved so we all might as well just move on.
