Because it has a chronograph minute hand with wings on it that makes it simple to know how many minutes have elapsed during an instrument approach. A pilot must know the exact time during an instrument approach when the aircraft is descending to make a landing. Time can be critical although modern approachs are even more exact than the earlier types.
