A riot has to be violent otherwise a large crowd is called a “Gathering” or “A DEMONSTRATION” which is what the J6 gathering should be called.

A riot is what went on in Watts in 1965, 35 dead, Detroit in 1967, one dead and Los Angeles in 1992, 63 dead. LA was a major outbreak of violence, looting, and arson in response to the acquittal of four white policemen on all but one charge (on which the jury was deadlocked) connected with the severe beating of Rodney King, an African American motorist, the previous year.
