Maybe even wrong for centuries because the 14th Amendment requires more than mere birth within America. It also requires that America has legal jurisdiction over the newborn which it clearly does not when an anchor baby is whisked away by a foreign citizen after being born in America.
That’s because the grant of citizenship requires more than just birth in America. It also requires that America has jurisdiction over the new-born otherwise it’s not an American citizen. Jurisdiction requires the subject agree that America has legal control over the newborn which it clearly does not if the newborn is removed from America by a parent or guardian who is a foreign citizen. No American cop can arrest a resident of say, China if that person is not in America. The president of the United States cannot require that a resident of a foreign country serve in the American military so there are exceptions to those who are subject to the jurisdiction of America which means there are exceptions to the idea of automatic birthright citizenship.
