That’s 10:00 AM Rome time as Pope Francis is laid to rest beginning at the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul in Rome and ending up at the St. Mary Major Basilica, (Santo Maria Maggiore) about two and a half miles away. We can say confidently that Pope Francis did his level best all thru his 88 year life. Eighty eight is a long life but it’s not nearly long enough even though plenty of people don’t make it that long. It’s unfortunate that Pope Francis didn’t appreciate freedom enough to be a full-throated supporter of Capitalism. Forgive the detour into money but Capitalism didn’t just arrive on the world stage. Capitalism is the natural trading system of humanity. A mutually agreeable deal where someone is willing to pay for what they get. The alternative to Capitalism is a system based not on individual freedom but on a system of cheating or coercion. Unfortunately Pope Francis didn’t grasp the simple connection of individual freedom with Capitalism but he really couldn’t because he was the leader of a system based on obedience. Obey the Church. Obey the Pope instead of the only system that is based on individual freedom which is what undergirds Capitalism.
