Uses the sun to tell time to the minute without batteries. Needs no winding. Just look. The most environmentally friendly way to know the time.     undefined

It has to have the gnomen, the plate in the middle set for the time of year so it’s not as hands-off as a sundial cound be but when set it is highly accurate although it’s far from as accurate as a cheap quartz watch. Both are useful in thheir own way. The Schmoyer Sunquest Sundial accounts for the apparent movement of the earth on it’s inclined axis and it’s inclined orbit. So much for the idea that a sundial is simple.

The equation of time can be approximated by a sum of two sine waves:

Δtey=−7.659sin⁡(D)+9.863sin⁡(2D+3.5932) [minutes]

where: D=6.24004077+0.01720197(365.25(y−2000)+d)

where d represents the number of days since 1 January of the current year, y.
