What’s wrong with a Bentley that cause it to have front wheel shimmy, .. an air-conditioing system that takes it’s time to start up, … a brake pedal that goes to the floor until the power brake system takes over, .. an unusual smell that’s similiar to mold and feces, very low milage, a low-ball price, an odometer that showed 39,625 miles but the car felt like it had 139,600 miles on it. Despite the CarFax that confirmed the miles, the car had too much going against it to believe the miles were accurate.. Was the odometer turned back? That would explain a lot but how can you tell if the odometer was turned back? One way is to get the car on a lift and inspect the underneath. We didn’t do that. We just rejected the deaL… It turns out that some of the Bentley components are badly under-designed. Consequently some of the parts wear out incredibly fast. The bare car weighs 5,556 pounds. Add 704 pounds for four 170 pound adults, 21 gallons of gasoline at 6.5 pounds per gallon which equals 165 pounds of gasoline and it weighs 6,425 pounds. That puts 60% of the weight on the two front wheels which is 1,927 pounds per front tire which is far too much so the front tires wear out really fast. So do the front brakes. The car I inspected had the front brakes and rotors replaced at 13,570 miles. Front brakes usually last at least 25,000 miles and the rotors should last t least 80,000 miles but the car is so heavy and the brakes so under-designed that they last about haslf as long as normal. In addition this car blew a head gasket and lost the power steering pump. I decided to pass but I’m still interested, … Sort of…
