Some facts: Sex refers to male or female.
Gender refers to “the male sex or the female sex….” supposedly with differences.
We know that there are males who are somewhat feminine in their behavior. Same for females who are somewhat masculine in their behavior. These differences are often referred to as “Gender Dysphoria”. A diagnosis for gender dysphoria is included in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5), a manual published by the American Psychiatric Association. Further, Gender Dysphoria (GD) is a facet of modern human biology which is believed to be derived from the sexual differentiation of the brain. GD “involves a conflict between a person’s physical or assigned gender and the gender with which he/she/they identify”, as defined in the DSM-5. Not too well known is the level of dysphoria of an individual. For example, we know there are men who are so masculine that there is nothing feminine about them. Same for women. We also know there are men who seem far more feminine than some women. Same for women. Dysphoria is an intellectual item and a term of measurement from a standard. Dysphoria relates to an intellectual difference from a standard. The level of the difference is not available in the literature. The literature is focused on the difference sexually however none of the literature involves any kind of scale on which to indicate the difference from a standard. Is gender dysphoria normal? Yes, for an individual who presents the characteristics. Neither a male nor a female person is dysphoric yet there are males and females who are dysphoric. Part of the problem is the identification and classification of the dysphoria. There is no system. Thus there can be no further discussion of dysphoria however additional discussion is needed to consider dysphoria. The bottom line is ignorance and with ignorance there is no standard. To repeat: the bottom line with the LGBTQ+ issue is there is ignorance. That much we know is the truth.
