Who he called and what he asked them to do or what he did to make something into a law is influence peddling, using his office in exchange for money or anything of value. Influence peddling per se is not legal as the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) has often used the modified term “undue influence peddling” to refer to illegal acts of lobbying but lobbyists get paid by their emoployer to access and talk to government lawmakers or their staff. Influence peddling is different than lobbying. It is corruption and thereby delegitimise democratic politics with the general public. It is punishable as a crime in Argentina, Belgium, Bulgaria, Brazil, France, Hungary, Italy, Portugal, Romania, Spain, and the United Kingdom. It is a sin according to the Catholic church and in all religions with the possible exception of some middle eastern ones.
