Race was supposed to be something all Americans ignored in decisions about hiring but Mahomes ~ who has a white mother and a white wife ~ made the most important thing about this Superbowl about him and Jalen Hurts being black. Why is race so important to Mahomes? What about his ability to play football, his physical and intellectual skills? Are they because he and Jalen Hurts are black? Somehow Mahomes has missed one of the most important attributes of being American, our human characteristics, those inborn attributes that happen becuse we are human, not because of the color of our skin. It’s sad to see core ethical concepts that have long underpinned the west being used to obsess about such shallow, debasing and raceist concepts.
